Suzhou is a beautiful city filled with lovely gardens and old style canals with men in boats paddling and canopying old style Chinese bridges. You can spend your days wandering around the city and checking out the parks, but in the evening you just want to relax and meet people. Maybe you have been feeling a bit foreign as you fumble your bad Chinese trying to bargain for the price of a Coke. Maybe it’s time for you to meet some people who actually live in Suzhou, Chinese and foreign, or maybe you just want to meet some other travelers to share stories with and you haven’t met anyone from your hostel yet. Where can you find one bar that’s casual enough for the backpacker and filled with an easygoing atmosphere and cool people from China and all over the world?

Walk down Shi Quan Street until you come to what appears to be merely an Irish looking pub with a typical green outside and reddish wooden doors. But this is no ordinary bar, no! It's Jane’s Pub Bar. But wait - it’s a pub and a bar? What does it all mean? The best of both worlds! This place is a cool combination of a UK pub and an American bar. It’s known for its good music and good selection of beers. There is even a pool table and they have lots of ongoing specials for both their beers and events like April Fool’s Day, Groundhog Day, Australia Day, etc. They have some regular Western bar food snacks and meat pies if you’re hungry, but the real reason people come to this place for the atmosphere and the price. It isn’t dirt-cheap but it won’t break the wallet either.

They have really good beers like Erdinger bottles for 35-45 RMB or Tiger Beer on draft for 30RMB. The cocktails vary in price but are still reasonable.

It’s also in a good location around other bars and restaurants so it’s not hard to find and you are still in the center of Suzhou, check it out!
