One probably wouldn’t think it, but Taiyuan claims to be home to some 100 restaurants that serve Western food in one form or another. Of course, most don’t quite meet the standards demanded by Western clientele. While Taiyuan still has a long way to go in catching up to Western dining in first tier cities, like Beijing and Shanghai, the three restaurants below are preferable options when you just can’t handle downing another, greasy Chinese dish.
1) The Hourglass Western Restaurant柔软时光西餐厅 View In Map
Located on the second floor of The Hourglass by the intersection of Binhe Donglu and Beida Jie, this restaurant is spread over 800 square metres and boasts a film screening room, two private rooms, four semi-closed booths and 40 tables that can seat up to 100 people at any given time. Oil paintings, photos and lamps decorate the walls, creating an overall cozy and relaxed ambience perfect for dates and low-key gatherings.
Rouruan serves a selection of Western dishes, red wine and coffee. It also offers an all-you-can-eat BBQ buffet. The most popular dish is probably their Italian thin-crust pizza.
