As we race to the end of the year, there are plenty of happenings in Suzhou to help you celebrate the festive season.

2)  Christmas Potluck Dinner at The Black MirageView In Map
The closest thing to a non-commercial get together is the open invitation from Santel and Ron, the friendly owners of our local American style neighbourhood bar, The Black Mirage, to their pre-Christmas Drop-In Potluck Dinner on December 17th. Everyone just brings a dish and sets it on the bar and helps themselves. Drink specials will be available, as will their great pool table. So come and meet your neighbours in one of the friendliest locals in town.

3)  Christmas Countdown Brunch at the IntercontinentalView In Map
If you are still hungry after the Black Mirage’s Potluck feast, head on over to the new Intercontinental Suzhou’s Jing Restaurant for their Christmas Countdown Brunch on December 18th. In addition to the delicacies offered at their regular brunch, there will be special holiday fare all for 358 RMB / person plus a 15% charge. This includes free-flow of imported wines, Christmas cocktails, beer, juices and soft drinks.  If you really want to impress, add 130 RMB for free-flow champagne!  You can make reservations online at

4)  Christmas Eve Buffet Dinner at LoewenburgView In Map
For those who want to splurge before their annual New Year’s resolution to lose a few pounds, check out the Christmas Eve Buffet Dinner at Loewenburg on Jinji Hu Lake, just beside the Cultural Center. The 388 RMB price tag includes the buffet, soft drink, wine or beer freshly brewed on the premises. The meal for children below 1.4 meters costs 198 RMB. The feast begins at 18:30 and finishes at 22:00 so you have three and a half hours of gastronomic pleasure! They are also offering gift baskets and some fine prizes at the lucky draw!

5)  Christmas at Heidi’s View In Map
For something a bit more modest, Heidi’s, just west of Starbucks, is offering “Christmas at Heidi’s” on Christmas Eve and also on Christmas Day. They will serve a four course Christmas set menu for 198 RMB that will include a free margarita for the ladies. They recommend advanced bookings, so give them a call.

6)  Christmas dinner at Pig and WhistleView In Map
For 198 RMB, Pig and Whistle is offering a traditional Christmas on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. The menu includes soup, roast turkey, stuffing, ham steak, side dishes and mom’s pumpkin pie with ice cream followed by coffee. Half price for the kids. Not a bad deal and no kitchen to clean up on a full tummy! They will also have a New Year’s Eve party with fireworks and a midnight countdown. Set menus for two people start at 199 RMB...half price from Christmas…an auspicious omen for 2012!!

7)  Christmas Day Texas Smoked BBQ at Zapata’sView In Map
If you are into a Tex-Mex Christmas head over to Zapata’s for their Christmas Day Texas Smoked BBQ from 12:00 to 15:00. In addition to the usual fare, they will offer turkey, ribs, smoked beef brisket and all the trimmings. Since it’s all-you-can-eat, the 128 RMB price tag is a great deal. Kids under 15 years old only pay 58 RMB.

8)  Mexican Christmas at Casa ZoeView In Map
Staying in the “Santa in a Sombrero” theme, the popular and family friendly Casa Zoe, is offering a Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fiesta, but with traditional herb roasted turkey, honey glazed ham, pumpkin pie and all the trimmings, starting at 17:30 on the 24th. 1)  Holiday ConcertView In Map
Suzhou Singapore International School will touch the hearts of parents and the public with their Holiday Concert. The Glee Club, School Orchestra, Choir, Strings and rock bands will perform new and traditional melodies to liven up the winter season. 2)  Swan Lake by The Crown on Russian BalletView In Map
