The Shenzhen music scene gets more exciting every year, with new live houses, festivals, and local bands shaking up the city. We’d gone through some of the basics of Shenzhen live music scene in the past, but it’s time to make room for some new additions. Here is an updated list of the best live music in Shenzhen:
1) The TerraceView In Map
Thai food, bar food, a great terrace, and possibly the best house band in all of Shenzhen. The Terrace has live music much of the week- often showcasing great local performers as well as their own amazing band. Drinks are on the pricey side, so it's a great place to go for a monthly treat. Go for dinner outside, and then head inside to dance the night away.

A popular Sea World sports bar, X-ta-sea has a house band called Katooz! that plays live rock music every Monday through Saturday. The bar also has acoustic music every Wednesday for those who aren't the head-banging type. As a sport bar, there are lots of TVs for watching the game, pool tables, Foosball tables, and great bar food. Happy hour lasts until 9pm, so grab a few cheap beers and stay for the live music. Oh, and single ladies drink for free on weekend nights!

Once a small music cafe in Luohu, Brown Sugar Jar has upgraded and is now a fully functional live house in Nanshan. Brown Sugar Jar hosts a number of local bands and is a great space with a laid back indie feel. The upstairs area has a Foosball table and couches for those who want to take a break from dancing. For drinks, Brown Sugar Jar boasts a menu of cheap cocktails, wine, and imported beer.

Shenzhen's gem for live music in OCT Loft, B10 is a huge indie space that hosts international, Chinese bands, and numerous festivals throughout the year. The organizers always seem to get an incredible array of acts from Chinese hip hop, to French jazz, to Finnish hardcore rock. A weekend concert at B10 is always rockin'.
Address: North Side of Building C2, North District of OCT-LOFT, Nanshan District
Hours: Open for shows
5) Beach Parties
With numerous beaches dotting the edges of the city, Shenzhen local music organizers often throw beach parties featuring local bands and DJs in a few select spots. Organizers usually offer buses to the often remote part destinations to and from CoCo Park for 100 RMB or so. Parties are held at Secret Spot Cafe at Xichong, and Aloha Beach Club at Nan'ao. Check Shenzhen Party for the next one!

A great little spot in OCT Loft, Penny Black has laid-black outdoor seating, and live jazz. The music ranges from classic jazz, to Spanish guitar, to folky acoustic singers. 8) Bang ClubView In Map
Do DJs count as live music? I'll leave that debate for the comments. Bang has become a hot spot for local DJs who perform at Drum N Bass nights on the weekends. For those who aren't crazy about electronic music, the club also occasionally has acoustic sessions with local musicians during the week. On the weekend though, Bang is the place to be for young Shenzhen club heads who dig heavy bass.
