The opening ceremony of the 20th Qingdao International Beer Festival on August 13th promises to be a dazzling affair. As the biggest and most established beer festival in China, it’s not surprising that an impressive line-up of popular Chinese stars have been successfully lured to the seaside city for its 20th edition. Highlights of the opening ceremony include a huge stage almost 100 metres long, a performance troupe with close to a thousand performers, Taiwanese pop singer Zhang Huimei, Hong Kong singer Li Ming, a huge LED fireworks display and more. Tickets for the opening night at Tiantai Stadium (天泰体育场) are expected to go on sale in the coming days.
“Happiness” is the core focus of this year’s beer festival. So to ensure a positive kick start to the event, the festival’s organizing committee has meticulously chosen some of the most popular figures in China’s entertainment world to perform; including the above mentioned Zhang Huimei and Li Ming, as well as popular Mainland singers Han Hong and Sun Nan. Each of the performers will perform a number of their own classic songs and some of the stars will not only be singing, but also delivering an energetic dance performance at the same time.
Besides the line-up of Chinese pop stars – who may not be that popular among non-Chinese natives – another major highlight is the original large-scale performance that features almost 1000 performers and incorporates song and dance, Peking Opera, comedy sketches and acrobatics. The grand performance traces the origins of the Qingdao Beer Festival, and also highlights the splendour of the festival over the past twenty years as well as modern life in the city of Qingdao.
It doesn’t end there. The performance will be staged on a brand new top-of-the-range stage that’s 100 metres long and 19 metres high. Those who can’t get a good view of the stage despite its mammoth size will be able to see every moment on one of three high definition screens within the stadium. Finally, the crowning of the event is the spectacular fireworks display. The same amazing fireworks as the ones used during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will explode over Qingdao’s night sky – which means a grand fireworks display nothing short of breathtaking can be expected.
