Isn't it a bit weird that in the middle of the article both thieves stole 38,000RMB from the credit cards, and the fine/wallet were both worth 10,000?

Chinese lack creativity when making up stories, how many times is the writing assignment just a modified version of what we went over in the book. My guess is the last one is made up to round it out to 3.

Dear Lord_Hanson, as an observationI retired from lecturing and moved into fin sector, and I even did a week of classes at a high school 30some yrs ago, and in my observation (having taught and managed across a few continents) 99.9% of everyone is copying for the book. In fact, true originality occurs at the same rate as genius, so yes, most of your students, your Chinese students (implied clumsily, n'est pas?), copy directly from 'the book'. Just like everywhere else.
