so are you saying that the domestic violence endemic within chinese society is ok because i am foreign and i don't understand? How is this or the mistreatment of women and children not a bad thing for ANY society? I have witnessed the casual violence regularly and you suggest i should accept this? Until women are treated as equal contributors to any society, they will continue to be property of their families or husbands and be treated as such.

what I'm trying to say is that you should never judge another culture based on the comparison drawn from your own culture. The fact that you say that the Chinese mistreat their children shows how little you know about the Chinese culture, really. I'm not saying you should accept anything. My argument is entirely that there are no better or worse cultures, only different ones

What you are actually saying is human rights are subjective (in your opinion), not universal. There are better and worse aspects to every culture. This aspect is definitely one of the worse!

I think I'm really making a sound argument here when I can link a story to prove how accurate my generalization of an entire society is... good stuff

i think you will find the instance of mother's killing babies quite rare in european countries, and are pursued vigorously by the law. Whereas baby-stealing is not rare in China. Shall i also refer you to the baby-hatch recently shut down in Guangzhou due to the number of babies being abandoned? I don't think you will find such a thing in Europe/North America/Australia/New Zealand. And 2-year-old Yueyue, left to die by indifferent passers-by. shall i go on ?

you could, but I think you might need to improve your reading comprehension skills. The argument, or my initial argument rather, was that there are no better or worse cultures, only different ones, and gender equality as progress is a western notion, we Chinese have our own DIFFERENT understanding when it comes to the issue of gender equality. Your problem, still, is that you are generalizing a society of over 1.3 billion people based on the thousands? tens of thousands? people affected? I bet I could find way more Americans (especially in Colorado or Washington)who think that America is a totalitarian state. Does that mean it's true then? Wake me up when you learn more of the Chinese culture, or find me a number that's north of 10 million

Simple. . .it's called talking out of one's ass in order to feel superior. This brainwashed "guest" who doesn't even have the courage to allow itself to be identified is so brainwashed that it truly belief its own horsecrap! Gender equality to Chinese men = you are my property. Gender equality to Chinese women = you must buy me everything I want because I'm a girl.

The mainland Chinese male (I have to make this discrimination) is chauvinistic and will be for a long time to cone. We've seen it on our daily lives. They can visit bars, brothels, have mistresses and as many girlfriends as he wants. When it's time to find a wife, her dating history comes under tremendous scrutiny. After marriage, the husband can still fool around but the wife can't. What logic is this? For myself, I don't really care what background my girlfriend comes from. Once we are seriously together, we'd both stop dating other people. Outside of China in developed countries, men and women share equal rights as far as relationships go. I don't think men here can accept that. Their mentality is still in the stone ages. With luck and hope, the next generations will have better gender equality.
