Ningbo Man Reports to Police That He’s Out of Toilet Paper

“I am in the male public bathroom located next to the Oude supermarket in Buzheng Village in Gulin County; the toilet paper is missing in here, and I need the assistance of the police sub-station to send more toilet paper!” These words were reported to the police sub-station in Yingzhou District in the city of Ningbo at 8:23 on the morning of October 29.

Upon receiving the report, the Gulin police sub-station arranged to dispatch officers to the scene. After 20 minutes officers had still not managed to locate the toilet in question, but as there was no further communication from the caller, police thought he had gotten help from someone else. And so it was with surprise that at 8:45 the police sub-station again received a call from this man. This time the man complained, “Why hasn’t the toilet paper been sent over already? My legs are falling asleep!”

With that, police officers at the Gulin sub-station contacted other officers who were stationed nearby; however, they were told that the bathroom the man was referring to is located too far away and that the dispatched officers were still searching for it. It was only at around 9 that the dispatched officers relayed the news that they had finally discovered the male public restroom located next to the Oude supermarket in Buzheng Village; however, the police did not find the man. It may be that he had already solved the problem himself and then left the scene.

Police at the Gulin sub-station state that in cases like these, police have no alternative but to investigate. Police are unable to reject reports made to them, a duty that sometime adds to the burden of their workload.

And that "workload" is what exactly? Certainly not stuff our cops do every day like arrest drunken drivers, issue speeding fines, dangerous driving, direct traffic, fine people speaking on mobiles while driving....you know, normal police duties. However, in defence of the local constabulary, our police would not rush to provide toilet paper as a result of an emergency call to the police station. Oh yeah, that's because most public toilets back home supply the paper. Sorry, forgot!
