The head of the Kunming Railway Bureau has announced that two separate bullet train lines will be running through and out of the province starting in 2016; one towards Shanghai and one towards Nanning and hopefully Guangzhou.

The first line is the Shanghai-Kunming line, which will run from the still under-construction Chenggong Station in Kunming over 2,066 kilometers through Hangzhou, Nanchang, Changsha and Guiyang. The entire journey is estimated to take between eight and ten hours, at speeds between 200 and 300 kilometers per hour.

The second line is the Yunnan-Guangxi line, connecting Kunming to Nanning and hopefully through to Guangzhou. This one will depart from Kunming Train Station, and run for 754 kilometers.
