The "Regulations for the Promotion of a Recycling Economy in Shaanxi Province" goes into effect on December 1st, as a means to reduce the hygienic and environmental problems spurred by the large number of single-use chopsticks used in restaurants. The new regulation proposes that hotels decrease the number of single-use products used, and prohibits restaurants from using single-use chopsticks. Managers found in violation of the regulation will be ordered by the Food and Drug Administration to rectify the problem. Restaurant enterprises that fail to do so will be fined 500-2000 RMB, and restaurant managers who fail to do so will be fined 50-200 RMB.
