Official taxis in the Xi'an and surrounding areas are easily recognizable by their emerald color. Commuting by taxis is extremely economical and considered one of the best ways to travel by many tourists. Official taxis usually seat about four average size people, so when traveling with larger groups of people, visitors are advised to hire more than one official taxi or a minivan.
There are two types of taxis in Xi'an: economy and luxury. The two-kilometer charge on economy vehicles is 6 RMB, and 8 RMB on luxury taxis. Beyond the first two kilometers, economy cars charge 1.50 RMB /km, and luxury cars charge 2.40 RMB /km. Late-night surcharges apply between 21:00 and 6:00.
