The direct voyage of passenger ships between harbors across the Taiwan Strait is expected to kick off in April, as operators of marine passenger liners have filed applications with relevant harbor administrations for plying across the strait, according to the Department of Navigation and Aviation under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).

The officials said that as direct cross-strait cargo shipping link has been established, direct sail of marine passenger liners will be on the agenda of next round of talks between Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation and the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait by the end of March or early April, with the discussions to be focused on the harbors and the sailing schedules.
