Visitors that drove to Xiamen during the May holiday may have found themselves “stranded” and having to make do with other options for accommodation if they had not taken care to book hotel rooms in advance. Hotels in Xiamen were all booked out for the 3-day holiday, including family-operated inns on Gulangyu Island. This was especially the case with the more economic accommodation like youth hostels in the area – 100% jammed full with backpackers and young travelers. Rooms in four and five-star hotels were even hard to come by this May holiday season in Xiamen.
