A favorite during the autumn and winter months, these buns are often stuffed with crab and steamed.

Wang Xing Ji 
Established in 1913, this time-honored brand is one of the first Chinese chain restaurants. It is famous at home and abroad because of the long history, good reputation and high quality food. It specializes in Wuxi cuisine, especially steamed buns stuffed with crab.

Fried bean curd (Youdoufu Gan) 油豆腐干
This traditional snack is fried and seasoned with soy sauce, ginger, onions and sugar. It has a pleasant texture, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.

Three treasure wontons (Sanxian Huntun) 三鲜馄饨
Originally from the township of Xishan, these wontons stuffed with meat, shrimp and pickled vegetables have developed into a typical Wuxi snack. They are served in a tasty soup made with egg, strips of tofu and spices.

Square cake (Fanggao) 方糕
A favorite local sweet, these cakes are formed in wooden moulds (which make a very unique local souvenir), and are stuffed with sweet fillings like bean paste, and are dusted with sugar.

Pan Fried Turnip cake (Luobosi Bing) 萝卜丝饼
This simple snack is a local favorite. Crispy and golden brown, it is delicious.

Fermented glutinous rice cotton round (Jiuniang Mianziyuan) 酒酿棉子圆
This snack has been around for over a century. Balls of sticky rice made with sugar and liquor are boiled in a soup, and is a favorite of the older generation.

Chinese flowering crabapple cake (Haitang Gao) 海棠糕
Originating in the Qing Dynasty, these cakes are made with fragrant crabapple flowers. They are formed in wooden moulds flavored with sweet syrup, and baked in wood ovens. They are best eaten warm.

The plum tribute cake (Meigong Bing) 梅贡饼
This crispy cake does not actually have any plums in it at all, but is made from sesame, rose, onion, shrimp, meat, bean paste and spices. It is baked and yellowish in color.

Scented Porridge (Guihua Tangzhou) 桂花糖粥
This is a porridge made from glutinous rice, sweetened with sugar and dates, and given its unique aroma with the inclusion of osmanthus flowers. It is thick and sticky, and is a favorite of the older generation.

Taihu boat snack (Taihu Chuandian) 太湖船点
These small cakes date back to around the Ming Dynasty, and were originally served as snacks on boat excursions to Taihu Lake. Rice flour is used for the cake, and various fillings can be found inside. They are available in a range of flavors and shapes.

Yulan cake (Yulan Bing) 玉兰饼
These cakes are first fried, then baked, flavored with rose essence, bean paste and sesame. They are a pleasing combination of sweet and salty, with a distinctive aroma.

These noodles are typically served with soup in Wuxi, and are a favorite of locals and visitors.

Lou Shang Lou Noodle Restaurant
Eat any of the great noodle dishes, but the shredded pork noodles and sweet bean noodles are fantastic. There is a small restaurant on the second floor.
