During the May Day Holiday, the Grand Canal Scenic Belt in Wuxi officially opened to the public. Since the restoration project started in the end of 2007, authorities have invested 2.2 billion RMB, carefully restored the Original Rong Laike and Beitang Rice Market, built Jiangjian Park and Canal Park, and reproduced the former Bank of China, Savings Industry Office, Tax Point and other historical sites. Lighting has been increased along both sides of the canal, and more than 10 bridges along the route had their façade renovated. For the restoration of transport, the authorities built four new cruise ship terminals, and purchased five high-end cruise ships.
