Changchun’s urban area is facing increasing challenges in congestion mitigation thanks to the rapid increase of motor vehicles in the city (15% increase per annum). There were over 500,000 motor vehicles on the roads in Changchun’s urban area at the end of 2010, prompting concern among local residents who feel that the city’s exasperating traffic congestion must be resolved as soon as possible.
