Jul 19, 2013 By eChinacities.com

On July 18 The Pew Research Center published the results of survey that quizzed around 370,000 people in 39 countries regarding their opinions on whether China will become the world’s number one economic superpower.

An above average amount of participants in 22 countries answered “yes” when they were asked whether they thought the US was still the world’s number one superpower; however many participants from eight other countries including the UK, Canada, Germany and France believed that China was currently the world’s strongest economy.

44% of Americans asked believed that China’s economy was stronger than theirs, while only 39% believed that the US was still the world’s number one economy.

Overall, many people who were asked believed that China’s economy would continue to grow, and would replace the US as the world’s number one economic superpower in the near future.

I don't think this . They only look at the surface of this country, but look for example in Wangfujing where is the centre of Beijing and there are peoples who are sleeping on the street , dirty proples who washing their body on the street ! I was seen this with my eyes in mornings when I go to pray to a church there and it is the worst things, it is the capital and this peoples staying there are there just as a protest maybe and to show to others how their country treat them ! even this country has good economy now, but it will not be the no. 1 soon ..... They still living in their traditional things and nobody can take them out from this, or with this way, they will can't be no. 1 . There must learn to not lie in their culture first of all, because Chinese culture lie very much.... cheat and do things just to "save face" or if it is to talk about a business , I am wonder if they lie the world the same way.... just to save their face..... Weird !

All of these speculations are based on "if China maintains it's double digit growth rate for the next XXX years, and the US economy stays exactly the same... China will be #1 by 2020." China already hasn't been maintaining double digits, and the US is growing, aided by more manufacturing returning there. Even with recessions and issues, the US GDP is still TWICE that of China. It would take 20 years to simply catch up, let alone take the top spot. And, probably the biggest factor which people don't realize or take into account, is that the US is sitting on some of the largest shale oil deposits in the world (62% of it to be exact) - and with the new technology that makes recovery really affordable - the US is about to become an oil EXPORTING nation again. This means that as soon as 2017 the US will be the largest oil producing nation on Earth (it has more oil than all of the Middle East combined) and will dictate global prices (bye bye OPEC) and vault it to the state as the world's first super-duper mega power and DOUBLING GDP. There is no possible way China could catch up, yet alone overtake the US if you take this into account. China will most likely be buying oil FROM the US. Just some food for thought.
