Wang, Li and Zhang Most Common Surnames According to Survey

The National Bureau of Statistics recently conducted a survey into the most common surnames in China and the results are pretty unsurprising: the top three most common family names are Wang, Li and Zhang.

Wang comes out on top with a staggering 94,680,000 people with that surname. That’s 7 percent of the total population, and more than the population of Germany and Belgium put together.

Li is close behind at 92,760,000 and there are 85,500,000 Zhangs. The next most common names are, in descending order: Liu, Chen, Yang, Huang, Zhao, Zhou, Wu, Xu, Sun, Ma, Hu, Zhu, Guo, He, Luo, Gao and Lin.
