October 20, 2010, the world's first driverless rapid transit system, dubbed the Automated People Mover (the APM system) debuts in Guangzhou. The APM’s vehicle body is like a subway train, but has wheels like a bus that drive on a concrete track. Each vehicle can carry about 280 passengers. According to Guangzhou Metro Company, the Pearl River New Town APM is now undergoing final testing and is expected to open in early November. After the line opens, it will travel between the Pearl River New City CBD and the Guangzhou Tianhe Commercial zone.
