Thailand Offers Free Visas in Attempt to Lure Visitors
May 19, 2010 By eChinacities.com

The Thailand tourism market has been seriously dampened by the ongoing clash between red shirt protestors and the Thai government. The Sichuan provincial government has received notice from the Thailand embassy based in Chengdu that from May 17th, 2010 to March 31st, 2011, Thailand will continue to offer free tourist visas for visits. This means that the original plans to cancel free tourist visas this April have been pushed back another year.

Despite the generous offer, many travel agencies based in Chengdu say that their customers are still hesitant about visiting Thailand any time too soon. Most travelers are opting instead to make trips instead to other resort islands including Bali and the Maldives.
