Taiwanese dance group Cloud Gate will perform their version of “Nine Songs” at the Chongqing Grand Theater on March 29 and 30. Choreographer Lin Huaimin graduated from the University of Iowa in 1972 with a doctorate of arts, creating the first Taiwanese dance troupe, Cloud Gate, a year later. The New York Times says that Lin has “successfully and brilliantly managed to fuse dance and theater together” while German newspaper the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung said “Lin is on par with the best modern dance work present in Europe and America today.”
