Stars Honoured at China’s Sports “Oscars” Ceremony

On October 11th, the 6th China Laurence Championship awarding ceremony was held in Xiangshan, Ningbo. Liu Xiang received the “Most Popular Sportsman of the Year” award. After a 13-month absence due to injury, he returned to compete in the Men’s 110m hurdles final at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea and won for the fourth time in a row. Sun Yang was awarded both the “Best Rookie” and the “Breakthrough” awards. He set a new world record in the 1500 metre freestyle (formerly the longest-held world record in swimming) and took two gold medals at the 14th FINA World Championships (Shanghai 2011). Yao Ming received the “Prominent Achievement of the Year” award even though he announced his retirement from basketball this summer.
