Snakes! In the Street! In Guangzhou

Snakes! In the Street! In Guangzhou
Dec 15, 2012 By eChinacities.com

Pedestrians walking around Guangzhou University Town last week got an unwelcome surprise in the form of snakes running rampant on the streets! The incident broke out on the stretch of road by Sun Yat-sen University and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Witnesses on site estimated that there were 50-60 snakes slithering about, although quite a few of them were run over by cars (there have been unconfirmed reports that Samuel L. Jackson was spotted driving in the area). Soon after the first snake sightings, several people associated with the South China Institute of Endangered Animals and Sun Yat-sen University arrived at the site and began rounding up the snakes, catching about 40 in total. The authorities are estimating that around 100 snakes snuck off into the bushes and are still “at large”, although they were quick to note that the snakes are not poisonous. The incident is currently under investigation, and authorities suspect that the snakes were let out by someone.
