Manchu-Han Banquet (Manhan Quanxi) 满汉全席

The Manchu-Han Banquet originated during the Qing Dynasty, and is the consummate culinary combination of nutrition, aesthetics and flavor. Legend has it that the feast was made famous by Emperor Kangxi, who after trying one bite of every dish, asked for a calligraphy brush and penned out four characters, “Man Han Quan Xi”, and thus the feast was named. Thanks to the emperor’s approval, the banquet quickly became popular among the royal family, and from there trickled down into the populace.

Today, the banquet consists of dishes from both the north and south, traditional plates from both the Manchu and Han ethnic groups. There are nearly 200 courses to choose from, and it is impossible to eat everything in one go. A true Man-Han Banquet lasts from lunch time until late in the evening, and is usually consumed over several sittings. Depending on the size of the banquet, the food may take as long as three days to finish. Lumingchun Restaurant is one of the few places in Shenyang customers can experience a true Man-Han Banquet fit for kings.
