Shanghai Watchdog: Lit Festival, Usher, Visas and Other News

Spring Festival is drawing to a close, and Shanghai is getting back to normal after the holiday. So what has been happening in the city over the past few weeks, and what does the month ahead hold for Shanghailanders? Here’s our round-up.

 

1) Rental Prices on the Up
Bad news for tenants… Shanghai rental prices have gone up. This recent inflation has dashed hopes that the end of Expo year would see landlords dropping their prices. However, Shanghai isn’t the most expensive city in China to rent a house or apartment. That accolade goes to our neighbour Hangzhou.

2) Visa Made Easier
Good news for anyone who dreads the day when their visa runs out. The Shanghai Entry and Exit bureau has added an English portal to its website. This allows you to download application forms, check the status of your application, and make inquiries. Bookmark this link – it will make your life easier! Read more here.

3) Taking the Mickey
As Shanghai’s Disney dreams inch ever closer to being realized, it has been announced that Metro Line 11 will link directly to the site from Luoshan Lu. Construction has just begun on the sixth Disney theme park in the world, and it is slated for completion by July 2015. The site will cover 107 square kilometers and will cost an estimated 100 billion RMB. Read more here.
