Seafood Restaurants Caught Cheating Customers Fined up to 100,000 RMB
Jan 21, 2013 By eChinacities.com

On January 16, Sanya released new provisions for seafood restaurants and vendors that cheat customers, stipulating that they will be fined 20,000-100,000 RMB. The new provisions come in the wake of a growing number of incidents in which customers were scammed at restaurants, receiving bills upwards of 10,000 RMB for ordering a fish and a couple of dishes. Earlier in 2012, the Sanya government also introduced several measures to protect consumers from unscrupulous restaurants, including banning the practice of setting a minimum expenditure price, prohibiting non-food and drink specific charges to be added to the bill and ensuring that all prices are clearly marked.

Tourists who think they've been scammed by a restaurant in Sanya should call 12315 to lodge a complaint.
