In order to rent a car in Sanya, non-Chinese visitors will need to produce a valid passport and their tickets for travel out of China, or a valid visa, as well as their driver's license and a deposit, the exact amount of which will vary between companies.
Companies will generally deliver the car directly to their customers and the cars can often be rented in Sanya, but returned to branches in Haikou. Rental can either be arranged by day or by mileage and visitors should be certain they know which they are agreeing to before signing the contract with the rental firm. Prices can vary from 300 RMB/day to 1250 RMB/day, depending on the make of car.
The deposit for renting a car is commonly about 5000 RMB. Drivers must also provide identification, a return ticket and a Chinese driver’s license. There are no highway fares or maintenance fees as these are calculated in the gasoline price.
