Sanya Attractions

Sanya is known all over China for its clear water and white-sand beaches, and it is sometimes compared to the Hawaiian Islands (but only by people who have never been to them). There are plenty of beach swimming opportunities, and water sports are extremely popular too, and everything from wake-boarding to snorkeling can be arranged on a trip to Sanya.

Tianya Haijiao is a pretty destination much favored by honeymooners, and is now home to the romantic Tianyahaijiao International Wedding Festival. Other beaches worth visiting can be found at DadonghaiYalong BaySanya BayWuzhizhou Island and West Island.

Visitors can still enjoy the sun and soak up some local culture at the same time at sites like the Yazhou Ancient City, which is dotted with Northern and Southern Dynasty relics. The Nanshan Cultural Excursion Zone is a huge area with three parks dedicated to the area's cultural history. In it, a huge statue of the Guanyin Goddess of Mercy looks over a Buddhist Park, beautiful planted gardens and a park designed to reflect peace, happiness and luck.
