Renovations Begin on Burnt CCTV Tower
Aug 13, 2010 By eChinacities.com

The first phase of renovations, removing the ruins of the burnt building, has begun on the CCTV tower that was ravaged by a fire last year. Last year on February 9th, the new CCTV headquarters, under construction at the time, caught fire unexpectedly. Investigations found that the fire was caused by unauthorized use of firecrackers at the location. After the fire, there was much discussion among Chinese netizens of what would happen to the structure. Renovation of the CCTV Cultural Center building will be accomplished in two phases: removing ruins and rebuilding. It is expected that the building will retain its original design and intended use.
