Public Transportation in Fuzhou Experiences Huge Upgrade
Jun 18, 2010 By eChinacities.com

In recent years, Fuzhou has worked at progressively upgrading public transportation infrastructure in the city. Notable strides have been made: it’s now only 20 minutes by car to a freeway; 80 minutes to Taipei via direct flight; 90 minutes by train to Xiamen; and 6 hours by express train to Shanghai. Last year, on June 3rd, city plans for constructing a light-rail transportation system in Fuzhou were approved by the central government. Currently, construction on Metro Line 1 has already commenced, and is expected to be open to traffic by the end of 2014. Metro Line 2 has also been planned and, once built, it is it will considerably shorten travel time needed for commutes between Daxuecheng (College City) and the city’s downtown area.
