New Year's Shopping Festival Begins; Chengdu's Wine Consumption Skyrockets

The 16th China Sichuan New Year's Shopping Festival in Chengdu recently opened to much fanfare. At the festival, many of the wine sellers, as a means to keep consumer interest in their products high, were selling their fine wine, many imported from France, Italy, Spain, Argentina and other areas, with high discounts. One such sales promotion had "AOC" (Appellation d'Origine Controlée) bottles from Bordeaux selling for only 49 RMB. Another sales promotion had wines from Spain's largest wine distributor selling for only 29 RMB!
