With work starting later this year and due for completion by the end of 2012 this latest highway will see the road length from Chengdu to Chongqing shortened to a mere 254 km, that’s 86 km shorter than the current highway and 40 km shorter than the mountain road, meaning that journey times between the two Sichuanese metropolises will fall to just under two hours.
