Nanjing Wins Bid to Host the 2014 Youth Olympics

After rounds of voting, the International Olympics Committee (IOC) has decided that Nanjing will host the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics. Youth Olympics was pioneered by IOC president Jacques Rogge and is a newly created international sports event second only to the Olympic Games. It is organized by the IOC as a sports event aimed to involved youths from all over the world, offering the youngsters a chance to celebrate and interact with a world-size event of their own. The inaugural Summer Youth Olympic Games will kick off in Singapore in August of this year.  Nanjing entered the bid for the games February of 2009 and had competed with Guadalajara of Mexico and the Polish city of Poznan for the chance to host the 2014 Youth Olympics.
