Prices for Nanjing’s subway line are calculated by the number of stops traveled. The beginning price is 2 RMB for 1-8 stops, while 3 RMB is charged for 9-12 stops and trips exceeding 13 stops cost 4 RMB. The total is calculated as you leave your final stop’s station, but there is no need to add money if you are transferring lines. Any trip that exceeds 120 minutes will only be charged 4 RMB so long as you do not exit the station. If you plan on using and IC rechargeable card, you will enjoy a 0.5% discount, while students can enjoy 50% off tickets.

Travelers visiting Nanjing for an extended period should purchase an IC (Jinlingtong) card – these can be used on the subway, public buses and ferries as well as in taxis. The cards are sold at various service centers around the city. When initially obtaining the card, customers must leave a refundable deposit. They can recharge the card at any of the service centers.
