After more than a year of operations, rental bikes in Nanchang’s Honggutan New District have become an important part of public transportation in the area. There are now 2,000 bikes available (up from 1,000) and 50 spots for renting bikes (up from 25). Over the last year local residents have applied for over 30,000 bike rental cards and usage of the bikes had reached an average of 8,000 times a day. As such, Nanchang will continue to try and make rental bikes available to residents in more crowded areas of the city, including Laocheng District, persuade residents to use bikes instead of cars and buses.
