"Midnight Tea", A Conceptual Art Project to be Held in Kunming on Nov 26th

"Midnight Tea", a conceptual art event aimed at showcasing the talent of community artists in Kunming and at creating meaningful interaction between strangers, will be held at 1919 Creative Park on November 26th. A new project by international artist Natasha Martin, the event takes its inspiration from Caribbean carnival masquerades and traditional Japanese tea ceremonies.

During this one-night-only event, members of the public can watch as twelve strangers come together to create a dynamic ritual that engages all five of the senses. Invited guests collaborate with Martin, who plays the role of the "Ghostess" Miko Kuro, to carry out personalised assignments amidst an atmosphere designed to foster friendly interactions that cross barriers imposed by nationality, gender, race and class.

The Midnight Tea project began in 2008 as an experiment in creating what Martin refers to as "Genuine Encounters" – raw, unrehearsed creative acts that emphasise the authentic effort of separate individuals working towards a shared intention.

Tea will be served at midnight on November 26th at 943 Studio in Kunming. Tickets will be available at the door (doors open at 11pm on Saturday). For more information (or to make a reservation), please visit the event website at mikokuro.com.
