Location and Climate

Hangzhou is located in the south of the Yangtze Delta Region at latitude north 30°16' and longitude east 120°12'. 

The Hangzhou prefecture extends west to the hilly border with Anhui province, and east to Hangzhou Bay. The city centre is built around the eastern and northern sides of West Lake, just north of the Qiantang River.

The city is known for its natural beauty that is enhanced by its wonderful mild climate, with four distinct seasons.  The average temperature is 16.2°C; January is the coldest month with an average minimum of 1 degree C (33.8 degrees F), while July is the hottest, with an average maximum of 33.1 degrees C (91.6 degrees F). Annual average rainfall is 1153.7 mm (45.4 in), with the wettest period being May to August.
