Kunming Subway “Trial Runs” Begin

Kunming Subway “Trial Runs” Begin
Feb 10, 2012 By eChinacities.com

If you'd been driving on the new airport highway on February 8th around 15:00, you might have caught a glimpse of one of the brand-new bright white subway trains passing by, which according to one person's estimate, reached a top speed of about 120 km per hour. However, don’t expect to be riding the subway anytime soon. The subway's "trial runs" are only the first of a three-stage process, during which time the subway’s engineers examine the system, personnel are trained, emergency drills are run, etc. This "trial run" stage should not take longer than three months. The "trial operations" begin once the subway has been deemed up to standard, and it has undergone a process of examination and approval by the local authorities, after which it will open to the public and the engineers will stay on to keep an eye out for problems. Once the "trial operations" period has concluded, "formal operations" will begin.
