A small animal rights group recently reported on Weibo that several boxes full of live kittens were being stored in the area behind the Suzhou Railway Station. Volunteers arriving on the scene found an apartment with eight boxes each stuffed with 20 kittens in very bad condition, the foul stench emanating from them was noticeable even outside the apartment. After talking to the man in charge of the felines, the group discovered that he’d been selling cat meat to the local restaurants. According to him, "Every day people from restaurants at Shi Lu, Guanqian Jie and other places come to my place to buy kitten meat. Business is really good." Apparently, after killing the kittens, restaurants can add various taste additives to make the meat taste similar to common varieties like beef or mutton. When a reporter inquired online about cat meat additives, a salesman readily recommended different additives, depending on how the cat meat was to be sold. The salesman also recommended cutting the meat in to small pieces for the best result.
