A monstrous 6 meter wave terrified locals and tourists alike when it broke through 56 meters of sea barriers to wash over the sea front, drenching and knocking over dozens of spectators.

The tidal bore occurs once a day, but the waves are enormous at this time of year, drawing hundreds of admiring visitors. Over 30 people were knocked off their feet when surprised by the powerful wave, but fortunately no one was seriously injured or swept out to sea.

The best times to view the spectacle are on August 27 and the 18th day of the 8th month of the Lunar calendar, which falls on September 11 this year.
