High speed catamaran to link Xiamen to Taichung
Apr 02, 2009 By eChinacities.com

plans to open up a Xiamen-Taiwan direct sea route this May by introducing a large catamaran, a type of double-hull large ocean going vessel made in Australia.

This 4-storey, 10,000-ton ship can accommodate 1200 passengers and 300 vehicles. With a maximum speed of 42 knots, it is currently the largest and fastest ferryboat in the world.

The distance between Xiamen and Taichung is about 150 nautical miles, by taking this high-speed ship, the journey time will be greatly shortened. It will only take 3.5 hours from Xiamen to Taiwan Island.

After that, the cargo, vehicles and passengers from across the Taiwan Strait can directly clear customs. Relevant procedures can refer to the easy mode of the “Three mine links”.

Taiwan vehicles are also expected to be able to drive on mainland roads if policy permits.
