Recently, Zipeng Mountains Scenic Area located in the western suburbs of Hefei city has been approved for an upgrade to become a national classification 4A level tourist attraction. The scenic area has over 100 different hills and mountains and over 50,000 acres of natural forest preserves which are home to over 120 different bird species. It is one of the biggest preserved natural woodland habitats in all of Anhui and the rest of eastern China, as well as the only training base for professional mountain biking in the country; the area has also hosted several national championship competitions for mountain biking in China.
