There are two railway stations in Hefei. Hefei Railway Station, located 4 km north of the city center, operates train services to most major destinations, including Shanghai (2.5 hrs), Beijing (9.5 hrs), Shenzhen (18 hrs), Guangzhou (18.5 hrs), Ningbo (6.5 hrs), Chengdu (22.5 hrs), Nanchang (6 hrs), and Huangshan (6 hrs).  This train station is the dock for all bullet trains in Hefei, and is the main station for the city. 

Hefei West Railway Station, at the west end of Wangjiang Road, operates services to Fuzhou (18.5 hrs) and Anqing (2.5 hrs). The importance of the station is likely to increase when two important regional lines, currently under construction, are completed. Bus No. 111 connects the two stations.

There are three different ways to book a train ticket in Hefei: over the phone, online and at the ticket window. Tickets can be purchased over the telephone (9510 5105) 4-12 days (tickets during Spring Festival travel rush are available 20 days in advance since January 2013, but this is subject to change). According to new rules introduced on Jan 1, 2013, all train tickets must be collected within 24 hours of purchase. Tickets are non transferable and are void if not used on the correct day.

To book tickets online, use the site www.12306.cn. Tickets can be reserved daily from 7:00-23:00 from 12-20 days in advance (subject to change; pre-sale booking periods often change during the Spring Festival and other important National Holidays). You can buy rail tickets at the sales window up to 10-20 days in advance (also subject to change).

If you lose your ticket, you can report it and pay a 2 RMB fee. The new ticket should have three characters that mean “lost ticket supplement”(挂失补). Tourists who lose their ticket must fulfill two requirements before they head to the nearest lost ticket office: You must have your original identification cards/documents that you bought the ticket with (i.e. passport), as well as the date and location of the original purpose, and you must do this more than 20 minutes before tickets are accepted for your trip.
