Heavy Pollution Warning Issued in Beijing this Week
Jan 19, 2012 By eChinacities.com

It may be time to start investing in a face mask. According to a monitoring station in Haidian District, Beijing’s PM10 reading reached 522 micrograms per cubic metre on January 18th. And the forecast for the rest of the week doesn’t sound promising either. The pollution is not expected to clear on the 19th.

According to the Air Pollution Index (API), a reading of 50 or less is considered excellent, readings between 50-100 (level 2) is good, 101-200 (level 3) is lightly polluted, 201-300 is considered moderately to heavily polluted and any reading in the range of 301-500 is severely polluted, or as some experts say, hazardous.
