At Guangzhou Municipal Government Press Conference on March 26, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Chen Rujia claimed that the city’s official PM 2.5 air quality monitoring is “stricter” than the US Consulate’s.

He also stated that the city plans to increase its current 11 monitoring stations to 18 next year and give city residence more guidance on how to protect themselves from the potentially deadly PM2.5 particles.

Guangzhou began monitoring PM 2.5 pollutants this time last year. According to official data, Guangzhou experienced 360 “good air days” in 2012.
