German recorder quartet Flautando Köln will perform at the Qingdao Grand Theater on March 15. Flautando Köln formed in 1990, when Katharina Hess, Susanne Hochscheid, Ursula Thelen and Kerstin de Witt, performed at the University of Cologne where they were students at the time. The performance went well and the idea stuck, and the four women have been performing as a recorder quartet ever since. During performances, the group plays 40-plus different recorders, each varying in sound and size. Given the limited number of works composed with the recorder in mind, the group performs a number of their own pieces.
