In such a hot summer, many Fuzhou citizens go swimming around the West River. However, there are lots of potential safety hazards of rivers.

The good news is that an open-air natatorium, or West river Natatorium, which will hold 10,000 people, is under construction. Moreover, the 1st area natatorium can be put into use before October and then it’ll be freely open to Shenzhen citizens.

West river Natatorium is divided into two parts, the 1st area and the 2nd area. The 1st area is 64,800 square meters and the area for swimming is 53,800 square meters, which varies with changes of the tide. The maximum capacity of this area is 10,000 people at one time. Around this swimming pool, there will be 4 life-saving observation platforms, 2 lifeboat wharfs, as well as 15 lifeguards and 3 lifeboats. Paralleling one bank of the natatorium, lifeguards will be patrolling on the floating bridge on the dike dam. What’s more, it will also be equipped with bathrooms, restaurants and parking places, etc.
