If you’re living in Wuhan, there’s good news and bad news.

The good news is, there are free umbrellas available at subway stations around Wuhan! All you have to do is sign up at the station, and give in a 30 RMB deposit. The bad news is, lining up for the subway is going to take longer than before as authorities are implementing a stricter, more comprehensive security system.

700 umbrellas will be placed at seven different stations initially, with plans to expand the service across the whole network at a later date. If you would like to sign up, head to the customer service center at Line 1 Hankou North, Line 2 Hankou Railway Station, Xunlimen, Hongshan Square, Zhongnan Road, Line 4 Wuhan Railway Station and Wuchang Railway Station.

Authorities have also announced stricter security checks on Wuhan subways. From September 1, every item of baggage must pass through the X ray machine, as well as an increase in manual bag searches.
