Besides Cuntan Port and Jiulongpo Port, the 3rd largest Chongqing port - Chongqing Foeryan Port - started its formal operation on the morning of Dec. 25. The port is one of the five key ports of Chongqing approved by the Ministry of Transport. It is a crucial component in a plan to establish a shipping center at the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The first phase of the project commenced operation on Dec. 25 and covers over 300 sq.km, with an initial investment of 120 million yuan. It also has one Ro-Ro ship berth with 400 parking spaces, and an annual throughput of 400,000 tons. This is the first time in modern history that Ba’nan has had a port.
