On March 12th, Hangzhou Tianziling Ecological Park天子岭生态公园 (first phase) opened to the public. The park is one of the first ecological parks in the country that was built on a former trash dump site. Tianziling used to be a landfill that stored over 9 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) for the municipality. Since May of 2007, Tianziling or No. 1 Landfill has been filled and is closed down. And as of December of 2008, constructions for the Hangzhou Tianziling Ecological Park began on top of the sealed landfill and an “ecological” park was born.
